The newsletter is even bigger this month, at eight pages. The cover page leads with a note from the Editor, Bob Harvey, who must by this stage be thinking that all that effort is paying off! The newsletter is well and truly rebadged now as the Club Magazine, and has acquired a price tag of 3d, although members can make an annual payment (i.e. a subscription) which reduces the price to 2/6.

A variety of social announcements - a birth (of a ‘son and heir’!); a new member; and a lecture is announced. The Northwood Wheelers have attracted Mr Thorne, the Athletic Advisor to Crookes Laboratories, who’ll be speaking about ‘Vitamins and Scientific Training for Athletes’ on March 2nd. As far as I recall, this would be the day after the Winslow bash, so perhaps some members would be in need of a dose of vitamins!

The AGM report. 20 members were present for the AGM, which was on 25th January. There’s a change of Chairman, as the incumbent, Mr F. Ryenolds, was too occupied in RTTC business. Otherwise, the elected officials seem to be carrying on. Previously agreed Club rule changes are to be enacted and communicated to the members.

Pages 3-4

Part 1 of the Wantage Story, in which David Saunders doesn’t pay attention to his chain tension, with disastrous consequences.

There’s an announcement that the 1953 Annual Cross-Country run had to be cancelled due to lack of support. That’s a shame after the optimism of the announcment in the previous Magazine.

And a request for ideas that might benefit the club’s operations.

Rumour-mongering and humour from the ‘Roving Reporter, Ivor Storey’. This just leaves me wondering what the background was to these little gems!

Pages 6-8

G. M. Empson takes up the second part of the Cheddar Gorge story, which finishes with ‘To be concluded’. However in the transcript of the story elsewhere on this site, there’s just a final paragraph that concludes the story.

Page 8 concludes with a table of revised club standard times, presumably used for setting handicap awards in time trials?
